DHAKA, June 19, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh conceded the three-match T20 International series against Australia after tasting a 7-run defeat in the second game at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram today.
After electing to bat first, Australia compiled a hefty 196-5, its highest total against Bangladesh in this format, thanks to a blistering 52 ball-89 from Matt Renshaw.
Bangladesh fought neck-to-neck before losing the plot in the middle overs, which eventually cost them the game.
However, the hosts, managed to put up 189-6 at the end to taste a defeat, giving Australia an unassailable 2-0 lead. Australia won the first game by four wickets.
The win marked a remarkable turnaround for Australia, who had been comprehensively beaten 2-1 by Bangladesh in the preceding ODI series.
Opting to bat first, Australia made a brisk start through captain Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis, although neither batter converted his start into a substantial innings.
Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed provided Bangladesh with the first breakthrough by trapping Inglis leg-before for 11, while pacer Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Marsh for 20.
Nahid Rana, playing just his second T20 match, more than one year after his debut game removed Cooper Connolly for 1 before Renshaw and Tim David put on 97 runs from 50 balls to pave the platform for big total.
David hammered 45 off 26 with two fours and four sixes before he was baffled by the slower delivery of left-arm pacer Abdul Gaffar Saqlain.
Renshaw who smashed four fours and five sixes guided the lower order to edge the side closer to 200-run mark.
With Tanzid Hasan attacking the Australian bowlers right from the words go, Bangladesh made a whirlwind start.
Matt Renshaw dismissed him with a return catch after he blasted 15 ball-30 but Bangladesh eventually raced to 72-1 in the first six overs, their highest runs in the powerplay against Australia in T20 format, keeping the hopes of levelling the series.
Saif Hassan who made team-best 42 anchored the innings and Parvez Hossain Emon, who returned to the side after missing the first match due to illness, provided further firework as Bangladesh appeared set for a series-leveling victory.
Aaron Hardie sent back Emon for 22 ball-36 and Australian spinners then stifled Bangladesh in the middle over to take the control of the game slowly.
Skipper Towhid Hridoy battled hard but Bangladesh needed 23 runs in the last over to seal the game.
However, they fell short of eight runs for victory at the end. Hardie was the most successful bowler for Australia with 2-40.
The third and final T20 is on Sunday at the same venue.
