Bangladesh eye strong performance in Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship

DHAKA, May 9, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh's national Kabaddi team will participate in the Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship, scheduled to be held in October in Ahmedabad, India, a press release said.

The Commonwealth Sport Federation has recently granted official approval for the championship through a letter sent to the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI). According to the approval, the tournament will be held from October 10 to 20, with participation expected from various Commonwealth member countries.

Bangladesh, one of the leading nations in international Kabaddi, has maintained a strong record in tournaments held at home, particularly in Dhaka. As a result, the country is expected to emerge as a strong contender in the upcoming championship. Alongside India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh is anticipated to compete among the top teams in the tournament.

Sports analysts believe that the event, conducted under the Commonwealth sporting framework-considered the second-largest multi-sport platform after the Olympics-will provide a significant opportunity for Bangladeshi Kabaddi players to showcase their talent on the global stage.

According to Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation sources, preparations have already begun, with plans to organize special training camps for both the men's and women's national teams, along with a series of preparatory matches ahead of the championship.
