DHAKA, May 7, 2026 (BSS) - Mosaddek Hossain Saikat inscribed his name into the
record books with the fastest century by a Bangladeshi batter in List A
cricket, but his heroics could not save Abahani Limited from a second
straight defeat in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
After suffering a five-wicket defeat to Dhaka Leopards in the opening,
Abahani today tasted two-wicket defeat to City Club in a rain-hit game at
Cricketers Academy.
Mosaddek smashed a 49-ball century against City Club in a match, shortened to
27-over, surpassing previous national record set by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in
2016. Mashrafe smashed the century off 50 balls.
Mosaddek eventually scored 101 off just 50 balls, hammering 10 sixes and six
fours in a breathtaking innings.
Mosaddek reached his fifty in 28 balls before racing to the next fifty in
only 21 deliveries. Only Brian Lara and Brendan Taylor have scored faster
List 'A' centuries on Bangladesh soil.
Alongside Mosaddek, Zisan Alam contributed 54 off 44 balls as Abahani posted
209-5.
However, City Club chased down the target with seven balls to spare and two
wickets in hand. Opener Mehedi Maruf laid the foundation with 71 off 56
balls, while Gazi Tahjibul finished the job with an unbeaten 40 from 28
deliveries.
Mosaddek also impressed with the ball, claiming three wickets, but ended on
the losing side despite his record-breaking performance.
