Bangladesh wants to make new history against Pakistan: Simmons

DHAKA, May 6, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons insisted that they are not keen to dwell on the past success as they prepare for the upcoming Test series against Pakistan with an aim to make new history.

The Tigers swept two-match Test series against Pakistan, that too on Pakistan’s soil in 2024, a victory that was believed to usher a new era in Bangladesh cricket.

However, Simmon said the past success puts little relevance now.

“No, it's history and that history is gone. We want to make new history now, so we're looking for Test series and see what happens,” Simmons said here today.

“It doesn't matter what happened then. Yes, you keep it in your mind, it gives you a boost inside that you won the last game, but it's a new game, it's a new place. We're in Bangladesh now, we're not in Pakistan. So all those things we have to try and put behind us and make sure that we focus on Friday (when first Test begins).”

After that epic series victory over Pakistan, Bangladesh lost series against India and South Africa, while drawing with West Indies and Zimbabwe before getting back to winning way with 2-0 victory against Test new comer Ireland last year.

Recalling their poor Test performance after that landmark achievement, Simmons said the players know about the value of consistency.

He added that the cricketers are determined to play their best cricket in a bid to keep their winning spree alive.

“I think, it’s going to be a good cricket pitch and we’ve got to put in place how we bat against them. If you want to be higher in the rankings, you have to play against top-class bowlers,” he added.

“We know as a unit that we have to bat and bat long against them and try and get big scores. Everybody’s in that frame of mind that they want to get big scores now, which is a good thing.”
