DHAKA, May 3, 2026 (BSS)- The Dhaka Premier League (DPL), Bangladesh's
premier List A cricket competition, is set to commence tomorrow (Monday) with
six matches scheduled across as many venues, marking the start of the
country's most coveted domestic tournaments.
On the opening day, Abahani Limited will face Dhaka Leopards at Bashundhara
Sports City Complex, while Mohammedan Sporting Club take on City Club at
BKSP-3. Gazi Group Cricketers will meet Brothers Union at ULAB ground, and
Legends of Rupganj will play Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club at the Cricketers
Academy in Purbachal.
In the remaining fixtures, Gulshan Cricket Club will square off against
Bashundhara Strikers at BKSP-2, and Agrani Bank will challenge Prime Bank
Cricket Club at BKSP-4.
According to a press release from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), T
Sports will broadcast or stream four matches live from each round.
The tournament will proceed under a revised format, with the BCB scrapping
the Super League and relegation league phases shortly before the start. As a
result, the total number of matches has been reduced to 66 from the
previously planned 69.
Despite the removal of the relegation league, the bottom two teams in the
standings at the end of the league stage will still be relegated to the First
Division Cricket League based on points. The team finishing at the top of the
table will be declared champions, while the second-placed side will finish as
runners-up.
Featuring 12 teams, the DPL remains a vital platform in Bangladesh's domestic
cricket structure, providing livelihoods for around 200 cricketers.
Traditional heavyweights such as Mohammedan Sporting Club, Prime Bank
Cricket Club, Abahani Limited and Dhaka Leopards headline the competition,
although other teams are also expected to offer strong challenges.
The participation of national team limited-overs players from the outset is
expected to boost the tournament's appeal, with more players likely to join
following the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
