DHAKA, June 22, 2026 (BSS) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said the army has been deployed under in-aid to civil power act in six districts of the country based on intelligence information to prevent possible untoward activities by the banned Awami League.

He made the remarks while talking to journalists at the Home Ministry in the Secretariat, saying the government will take all necessary measures to deal with the situation.

The Home Minister said the law and order situation is much better now than before and the government is closely monitoring the situation.

Mentioning that some activities of the banned Awami League have been noticed, he said: "We have seen them carrying out processions and meetings in different districts of the country. This has led us to believe that they may attempt to create disorder."

As there are concerns that such activities may create instability, law enforcement agencies have been instructed to remain alert, he said, adding that law enforcement agencies always have to remain vigilant.

Salahuddin Ahmed said army personnel have been given magistracy powers from today until June 30 so that any kind of untoward situation can be dealt with, and the decision has been taken with that objective in mind.

He said the government takes assistance from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) or the army whenever necessary.

Mentioning that the army had been withdrawn on June 15 after carrying out duties in the field for nearly one and a half years, he said the army was withdrawn from the field as quickly as possible after the elected government assumed office.

Salahuddin Ahmed said army deployment has been made only in those districts where attempts at sabotage or untoward incidents have been observed.

Replying to a question regarding the detention and subsequent release of the son of a member of parliament by the Detective Branch (DB) police, the minister said all are equal in the eyes of the law.

He said there had been various allegations against the individual with the police. For this reason, he was questioned and later released after obtaining an undertaking.
