Tigresses concede T20 series to Sri Lanka

DHAKA, April 20, 2026 (BSS)—Bangladesh Women’s team lost the three-match T20 International series to Sri Lanka after tasting a 21-run defeat in the second match at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.

Put into bat first, the visiting Sri Lankan side posted a competitive 154-4 before restricting Bangladesh to 133-5 to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.

Sri Lanka earlier won the first game by 25, making it a ‘do or die’ contest for Bangladesh.

But the hosts failed to come up with the terms in the crucial game despite getting a solid start from the openers Dilara Akter and Juairiya Ferdous who put on 46 runs for the opening stand.

Dilara was the first to go after making 23 when Kavisha Dilhari had her caught by Hansima Karunaratne.

Juairiya who played with utmost confidence was trapped run out, after scoring a fluent 29 and her dismissal put Bangladesh in a jeopardized state.

Nigar Sultana Joty who went past Salma Khatun to set record for playing most T20 internationals as captain with 66 matches, scored just 7 to leave the side in further danger.

Sharmin Akhter then battled lonely to remain not out on 44 but her effort was undermined by the mediocre batting performance of the middle order batters.

Kavisha Dilhari took 2-15 to be adjudged player of the match.

Sri Lankan innings was built around by two top knocks from Harshitha.
 
Samarawickrama who made team-best 49 and skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s 42.

While Athapaththu contributed in the side’s solid start, Harshitha gave the finishing touch astutely. Imesha Dulani chipped-in-with 27 and Nilakshi Silva was unbeaten on 22. 

Sri Lanka earlier won the three-match ODI series 2-1.
