DHAKA, April 29, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh finished runners-up in the Women's
Asian Games Qualifying Hockey tournament after suffering a 3-1 goal defeat to
Chinese Taipei in the final held in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday.
Bangladesh made a bright start, taking the lead in the 8th minute of the
first quarter when Orpit Paul converted a penalty corner. However, Chinese
Taipei fought back to equalize in the 17th minute of the second quarter.
The momentum shifted in the third quarter as Chinese Taipei struck twice
taking the lead in the 32nd minute before extending their advantage with a
third goal in the 40th minute.
Despite their efforts, Bangladesh failed to mount a comeback in the final
quarter and could not add to their tally.
Earlier in the tournament, Bangladesh opened their campaign with a 5-5 draw
against Chinese Taipei before registering their maiden international victory
with a 3-2 win over Uzbekistan women's national field hockey team. They also
confirmed their place in the upcoming Asian Games with a 2-1 win over Hong
Kong women's national field hockey team in their final group match.
Bangladesh secured a place in the final after defeating Singapore women's
national field hockey team by 3-1 goals in the first semifinal.
