DHAKA, April 21, 2026 (BSS) - Offspinner Nayeem Hasan reached the milestone of 300 wickets during the opening day of the first round of Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) today, making the day a memorable one for him despite a poor return.
Playing for East Zone, Nayeem returned figures of 1-46 on Day 1, largely dominated by their opponents Central Zone at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
At stumps, Central Zone reached 272-6 with Abu Haider Rony batting on 90 and Ashiqur Rahman Shibly on 75.
They combined for a 147-run for an undefeated seventh wicket to give the side a control after a shaky start that saw them reeling to 125-6. Bulk of the runs came from the willow of opener Shadman Islam who made 56.
Apart from him, no other from top six batters could stand tall. However, Nayeem entered into the record book by dismissing Shadman.
Ebadot Hossain and Tofayel Ahmed scalped two wickets apiece for East Zone.
Captain Mohammad Mithun hit a half-century, a 53 runs knock as South Zone were bowled out for 316 against North Zone in the day's other match at Sylhet Academy Ground.
North Zone reached 16 for no loss at stumps.
Opener Iftekhar Hossain Ifti made 49 while Rizan Hossain scored 47 for another two vital scores for North Zone which eventually propelled them past 300-run mark.
Taijul Islam and Abdullah Al Mamun were the stand out bowlers for North Zone by claiming three wickets apiece.
