DHAKA, April 15, 2026 (BSS)- New Zealand head coach Rob Walter has heaped praise on Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana, describing him as a "wonderful fast bowler" capable of exploiting home conditions in the upcoming ODI series.
Speaking at a press conference in Mirpur today, Walter acknowledged Nahid's
pace and potential impact, especially in familiar conditions.
"A wonderful fast bowler. This condition will help him. It is good to see
such a fast bowler for Bangladesh," Walter said.
Nahid, who recently featured in the Pakistan Super League, has returned home
to join the national squad for the series against New Zealand national
cricket team.
Walter made it clear that his side is not taking the young pacer lightly.
"We are not underestimating his quality at all. I said earlier, they have
some very good quality fast bowlers in their team. Dealing with fast bowlers
is nothing new for us. We do it regularly. We also have pacers in our team.
We just have to do the work in the match," he said.
"He bowls at 140 kmph, maybe the conditions are a little different, but we
have to use our skills here and handle him," he added.
Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons, meanwhile, underlined Nahid's importance
to the team, calling him a "trump card" and stressing the need for careful
management.
"Nahid Rana is our trump card. We have to protect him. We have to keep in
mind that he is always available. We have to take care of him so that he can
give himself up for Bangladesh," Simmons said.
Looking ahead to the series, Simmons expressed confidence in his side's
preparations.
"We are ready for all kinds of challenges and are preparing for the places
where they can test us. We are looking forward to a competitive series and a
fight before Pakistan comes," he added.
