DHAKA, Dec 11, 2025 (BSS)— Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain is eagerly anticipating his Big Bash League (BBL) debut after arriving in Australia, following a long journey. He will represent the Hobart Hurricanes in the upcoming season, which is scheduled to begin on December 14.
The lanky bowler, who departed Dhaka on Tuesday night, shared his excitement on social media upon receiving his Hobart Hurricanes kit.
“Finally wore the Hobart Hurricanes kit. It feels amazing. Now looking forward to the matches,” Rishad wrote.
Rishad's selection was heavily influenced by Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting, the Hurricanes’ Head of Strategy. Ponting was impressed by Rishad's impressive performances during the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.
Although Hobart Hurricanes had confirmed Rishad’s signing for the previous season, he was unable to play due to commitments with the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
However, this year, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted him No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the full Big Bash season, meaning he will not participate in the BPL, which overlaps with the BBL.
The Hurricanes will begin their campaign against Sydney Thunder on December 17, the third day of the tournament.
With this signing, Rishad becomes only the second Bangladeshi cricketer to play in the Big Bash League, following in the footsteps of Shakib Al Hasan. However, unlike Shakib, Rishad was picked up directly from the draft.
