DHAKA, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS)— Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam equaled Shakib Al Hasan as the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in Test cricket after claiming 4-76 in the first innings of the second Test against Ireland at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.
Shakib had played 71 Tests to reach the tally of 246 wickets, a mark Taijul matched in just 57 matches. With one innings still remaining in the ongoing Test, Taijul is poised to surpass Shakib and become Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker in the format.
Bangladesh all but sensed victory after stretching their overall lead to 367 runs at stumps on Day 3.
The hosts earlier posted 476 in their first innings before bowling out Ireland for 265, securing a commanding 211-run first-innings lead, thanks to Taijul’s outstanding spell.
In the second innings, openers Shadman Hossain and Mahmudul Hasan Joy struck half-centuries to guide Bangladesh to 156-1 before the close of play.
