DHAKA, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS)— Bangladesh’s experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim dedicated his 100th Test appearance -- made even more memorable with a century -- to his grandparents and maternal grandparents.
Speaking to the media after achieving the rare milestone, Mushfiqur was visibly emotional when asked to whom he wanted to dedicate the occasion.
“My grandparents—both my paternal and maternal grandparents—were actually my biggest fans when they were alive. Before they passed away, when they were a little sick, I still remember them saying, ‘Bhai, we want to live a few more days just to watch you play,’” he recalled.
“That is something very special, and very few grandchildren are lucky enough to experience that,” he said.
Regarded as the epitome of hard work and patience, Mushfiqur’s relentless dedication has often been cited as the foundation of his longevity in cricket, eventually taking him to the 100-Test landmark.
The milestone became even more significant with his century, which made him only the 11th batter in the 148-year history of Test cricket to score a hundred in his 100th Test. The festive atmosphere at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium over the past two days added to the occasion.
Mushfiqur said the achievement could belong to no one else but his grandparents.
“So I would say it is truly their blessings that have brought me this far today. There are many more people behind my success, but to them—both sets of my grandparents—I want to dedicate this milestone,” he added.
Bangladesh’s football sensation Hamza Chowdhury had also congratulated Mushfiqur through a video message on playing the 100th Test.
Mushfiqur said he watched the message and hopes to thank him in person.
“Yes, I heard it yesterday and later saw it on my manager’s phone. I was really surprised and happy to see that, and hopefully, if I ever meet him face-to-face, I will definitely thank him,” he said.
