Bangladesh suffer defeat to Hong Kong

DHAKA, Nov 9, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh tasted a 1-wicket defeat to Hong Kong in the Hong King International Sixes tournament’s plate phase final today at Mission Road Ground, Mong Kok, Hong Kong.

The six-a-side tournament saw Bangladesh put up 120-5 in the six overs, which the hosts Hong Kong overhauled in the last ball to reach 123-5.

Hong Kong needed 17 runs in the last three and Aizaz Khan hit three sixes in a row against Bangladesh captain Akbar Ali to help the side ensure the victory. Aizaz also hit sixes off the first two balls in the same over, taking 32 runs off five balls.

Akbar gave two wides while conceding sixes in a row. In total, Bangladesh lost the match after Akbar conceded 32 runs, including five sixes, in the last over of the match. Aizaz was not out on 21 ball-85, hitting four fours and 11 sixes.
Akbar Ali led the charge with the willow earlier, hammering 13 ball-51 with one four and seven sixes but his blistering knock was overshadowed by his poor bowling at the end.

A total of three finals were held in the 12-team tournament today. The four teams that finished third in the group stage played in the bowl stage. Sri Lanka won the bowl final beating United Arab Emirates (UAE) in this phase, also involving Nepal, Sri Lanka and India. 

The plate phase was held with four teams that made it to the quarterfinals after passing the group stage, but could not reach the semifinals. In this phase, the Bangladesh team defeated South Africa and Hong Kong beat Afghanistan to reach the final. At the end, Bangladesh became the plate runners-up.

And in the cup phase between Pakistan, Australia, England and Kuwait, Pakistan and Kuwait reached the final. Pakistan defeated Kuwait by 43 runs and became champions of the tournament.
