Turkmenistan registers third successive victory in Cava Cup

DHAKA, Oct 24, 2025 (BSS) - Turkmenistan kept their unbeaten run alive with a commanding 3-1 win over Afghanistan  in the CAVA Cup Men’s Volleyball Championship held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium, Mirpur today (Friday).

In a contest that swung like a pendulum early on, the Turkmen side took the opening set 25-17 before Afghanistan roared back to level the score with a tight 25-23 triumph. The momentum, however, soon shifted again as Turkmenistan’s power hitters and sturdy defence took centre stage.

With well-orchestrated teamwork and calm under pressure, they sealed the next two sets 25-20 and 25-16, stamping their authority in emphatic fashion.

The Afghan side fought valiantly, showing flashes of brilliance and resilience, but their inconsistency at the net and service errors proved costly against a disciplined Turkmen outfit that now looks every inch a championship contender.

Earlier in the day, Nepal registered a comfortable straight-sets victory over the Maldives (25-21, 25-23, 25-18). The Himalayan side’s sharp attacks and impeccable service game left little room for a Maldivian comeback, despite the islanders’ improved display in the second set.

With this result, Turkmenistan top the standings with three wins from three, setting the tone for the remainder of the six-nation tournament, which also features hosts Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan.
