BCB aims to prepare former cricketers as coaches

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS)-The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken an
initiative to prepare the former cricketers as coaches in a bid to quell the
dearth of quality local coaches.

The BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul expressed his desire assured to use
them in the Under-19 team, age-based teams and the national team later.

A coaching course bas started at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium today to
give district and divisional coaches a glimpse of modern cricket coaching.

Cricketers like Mohammad Ashraful, Shahriar Nafees and Mahmudullah Riyad have
joined this course. Apart from this, Mohammad Salahuddin, Sohel Islam and
Talha Zubair, who are currently working as coaches, have also participated in
this course.

"We have emerging teams, under-19 teams, age group teams, national teams, and
so we have to create specialist batting coaches, bowling coaches, fielding
coaches," Bulbul said here today during the course.

Led by Ashley Ross and Ian Renshaw, the program will focus on every aspect of
batting and how to coach batting - all to sharpen the art of scoring.

"So this is our first step as we thought that we have to start preparing
domestic specialist coaches. Step number one is that we are starting with
batting coaches and the two people (Ross and Renshaw) we have brought in here
are the best in the business in my eyes.'

Amongst the participants, 12 cricketers had played Test format.

Bulbul believes that the cricketers who are currently playing will also gain
additional ideas about the game if they participate in this coaching course.

"There are 12 Test cricketers here who played Tests, many have retired. Those
who are here, all at least played ODI cricket. Look when a player knows how
to solve problems, it will be beneficial for him," he pointed out.

"Mahmudullah, Shahriar Nafees, Mohammad Ashraful, Rajin Saleh-they are all
established and successful Test cricketers. Let me give you a small
calculation, if they have zero coaching experience even though they have
played at the international level, then they cannot become coaches."

"But when they take a lot of high-quality coaching courses and combine that
with their playing experience, then that combination will be very rare in the
world."
