BCB sets up honours board in Mirpur

DHAKA, June 26, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today launched an Honours Board at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur where  the names of every test cricketer who has played since 2000 are listed.

The BCB organized a special program to mark the silver jubilee of achieving test status on June 26, 2000. Bangladesh, however, played their inaugural Test match on November 10, that year.
 
Starting from Akram Khan, all of the cricketers including Habibul Bashar Suman, Mashrafe Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan are on the Honours Board. Apart from that, current cricketers like Nayeem Hasan, Nahid Rana’s names are also etched in the Honours Board. 

The players name, time of debut and Test cap number, all information is inscribed in the Honours Board. A commemorative cabinet was also set up beside the Honours board. All of the trophies that the players won for Bangladesh cricket were put up in the cabinet.

Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan inaugurated the Honours Board at a reunion of the cricketers played in the first Test. The BCB President, former players and other directors of the BCB were present.

The reunion programme was held as part of the week-long celebration of the 25 years of country’s Test status. The adviser announced that the government will take an initiative for setting up 100 turfs in 100 schools in a bid to pace the cricket activities in the grassroots level.

“As part of the decentralization of cricket, the turfs would be set up in the schools with the support from BCB, he said.

To mark the biggest achievement of the cricket, various events across the country are currently going on. 

Under-12 six-a-side tournament is currently going on at divisional cities while there is a pacer and spinner hunt, interactive fans experience.  

BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, also the first Test squad member and the inaugural Test centurion of the country explained that there are two reasons for celebrating the silver jubilee with various events across the country.

The first reason is celebrate 25 years of Test cricket while the other reason is to give a wake-up call as cricket seemed to have been in hibernation mode in many places of the country, he said.
