DHAKA, June 19, 2025 (BSS) - Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has reaffirmed the government's commitment to decentralizing sports activities across the country.
He made the remarks while speaking at the closing and award ceremony of the National Gold Cup Football Tournament 2024 (Under-17) held at the National Stadium in Dhaka today.
The adviser said, "The Ministry of Youth and Sports is working actively to decentralize all sports, including football and cricket, ensuring that opportunities and facilities reach all regions of the country."
Asif, also Adviser for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, noted that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is already implementing plans to promote regional cricket while the Bangladesh Football Federation is expected to follow similar efforts in football development.
Highlighting upcoming initiatives, he said, "We are working to expand the number of venues capable of hosting international matches. Hopefully, this year we will be able to organize an international football match in Nilphamari and international cricket matches in Rajshahi and Khulna."
"These steps will bring true decentralization to sports. We want to prove this through practical implementation with the cooperation and participation of all," he added.
