DHAKA, May 26, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh legspinner Rishad Hossain added another
feather to his envious franchise cricket career after Lahore Qalandars sealed
the Pakistan Super League (PSL) trophy.
The young Bangladeshi spin bowling all-rounder has recently become a lucky
charm in franchise cricket for the fact that the team for which he plays for,
win the title eventually.
The latest scene was seen last night when Lahore pulled off a victory by
creating a slice of history.
Lahore lifted the trophy by successfully chasing the target of 202 runs set
by Quetta Gladiators in the final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, which is
the record for the highest run chase in a T20 league final.
Two other Bangladeshi allrounders Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are
part of the title-winning Lahore although they were not in the playing XI.
Rishad's arrival injected a fresh breath of air as Bangladesh were searching
for a world class legspinner. He stepped into the international arena two
years and two months ago but in a short time he cemented his place in the
white ball cricket as well as became the hot cake in domestic T20 leagues
around the world.
The success in the T20 World Cup last year in which he scalped 14 wickets,
highest by any Bangladeshi bowler, gave Rishad the opportunity to play in the
Global T20 League in Canada.
He was picked by the Toronto Nationals but due to visa complicacy he could
not go to Canada. Although he could not play, his team Toronto Nationals
became the champion.
Rishad was bought by the Hobart Hurricanes in the last season of Australia's
Big Bash League. The BCB did not give him a no-objection certificate (NOC)
because the Bangladesh team was on a West Indies tour.
Hobart Hurricanes sealed the trophy for the first time in their history.
Rishad played for Rangpur Riders in the first edition of the Global Super
League (GSL) held in Guyana last year.
The Bangladeshi franchise started the tournament by losing its first two
matches, but turned the table emphatically to win the title.
The trend showed that whether Rishad plays or not, the franchises he has been
a part of in the last 12 months, won the title eventually.
However, Shakib Al Hasan has won the most tournament titles among Bangladeshi
cricketers. After Lahore Qalandars became champions, Shakib won seven
trophies for a total of six teams.
Caribbean legend Dwayne Bravo is on top of the list with a record 17 trophies
in T20 tournaments. The record for winning the most T20 tournament titles in
a calendar year is held by another Caribbean star Andre Russell.
