DHAKA, May 22, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh captain Liton Das admitted that their below par performance against a rejuvenated United Arab Emirates led their downfall in the three-match T20 series.
Bangladesh though took the early by winning the first game by 27 runs, they lost the last two matches to concede the series 2-1.
"Definitely, it's not up to the mark when you come here always thinking to win the game, but still, this is part of life," Liton said after losing the series.
"And when you play cricket, sometimes the opposition plays really well. Credit goes to them also. Still, we made a couple of mistakes in batting as well."
UAE chased down Bangladesh's 205-5 to win the second game by two wickets before winning the series deciding third game by seven wickets in emphatic fashion.
Bangladesh batted poorly in the third game, being restricted to just 162-9. At one point, they slumped to 84-8 but a late surge, thanks to Jaker Ali Anik and Hasan Mahmud gave them something to defend.
Liton, however, also saw the dew's role in the defeat in last two matches, saying that the dew at night made the bowlers' task tougher.
"Today, I feel that this is not up to the mark. We couldn't do what we want to do on this surface and this condition. We bowled second in the last three games, and so dew came to the fore. The dew is the main factor to neutralize our bowlers' efficiency," he remarked.
Still he found some positives in the batting of Parvez Hossain Emon, who blasted a century in the first game, which was only second by a Bangladeshi batter after Tamim Iqbal.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Jaker Ali Anik and Towhid Hridoy also batted well, according to Liton.
"Parvez Emon and Tanzid Tamim played well in a couple of games, Hridoy and Jaker batted really well. And in the middle, a couple of guys bowl really well. But still, we have to learn, learn more, and execute in the match," he said.
He also showered praise on UAE for their historical feat.
"The UAE played really well today. They played really well in the first half. They bowled well, and that's why we couldn't score that much," he said.
"But in the batting, they get favour of dew a little bit. Still credit goes to them, whoever bats in the middle, batted well. They don't panic that much, and credit goes to them."
