DHAKA, May 17, 2025 (BSS)-Bangladesh A experienced a batting meltdown to
concede a 70-run defeat to New Zealand A in the first of the two-match four-
day series at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today.
Chasing a victory target of 246, the second string Bangladesh, formed mostly
with the national players, were wrapped up for just 175.
The Bangladesh batters basically were undone by legspinner Adithya Ashoke who
claimed 5-54. Left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox was the other wrecker-in-chief
with 3-38, after playing a second fiddle to Indian born New Zealand player
Ashoke.
Mahidul Islam Ankon made team-high 57 while opener Zakir Hasan scored 50.
Apart from them only two other batters reached double digits with captain
Nurul Hasan Sohan, who scored a century in the first innings, making 27 and
opener Anamul Haque Bijoy adding 16.
Resuming the fourth and final day on 216-5 and with 204 runs ahead, New
Zealand A were bowled out for just 257, adding just 41 runs to their
overnight total for the loss of the last five wickets.
Nayeem Hasan (4-73) and Murad Hasan (5-61) shared nine wickets between them
as Bangladesh thought they kept the target under their control.
But a poor batting show ruined their hopes at the end.
Earlier, New Zealand A were bowled out for 256 and conceded 12 runs lead when
Bangladesh put up 268 before being all out.
The second and final four-day game begins on May 21 at the same venue.
