DHAKA, May 16, 2025 (BSS)- FIDE Master (FM) Tahsin Tajwar Zia of Bangladesh finished in 66th position in the open category of the Asian Individual Chess Championship concluded in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
In the ninth and final round, Zia defeated International Master (IM) Chen Qiu Bi of China and secured five points from nine games, said a press release.
Meanwhile, IM Manon Reja Neer finished 93rd and FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid finished 118th in the open category with four points each.
In the final round, Neer lost to Grandmaster Xu Yi of China, while FM Sakline Mostafa Sajid defeated Hsu Hsuan-Ming of Chinese Taipei.
In the women's category, woman FIDE Master (WFM) Noshin Anjum finished in 61st position with four points from nine games.
She drew with Woman Grandmaster Citra Dewi Ardhiani Anastasia of Indonesia.
Iranian Grandmaster Daneshvar Bardiya emerged as champion in the open category with seven points from nine games, while Indian Grandmaster Nihal Sarin finished as the runner-up with the equal number of points.
In the women's category, Chinese International Master Song Youxin won the championship title with seven points from nine games, Mongolian Woman Candidate Master Mungunzul Bat-Erdene finished runner-up while
Kazakhstan's Woman Grandmaster Balabayeva Xeniya finished third, Indian International Master Vantika Agrawal finished in fourth position.
The top ten players in the open category will qualify for the FIDE World Cup Chess Championship, while the top two players in the women's category will qualify for the FIDE Women's World Cup Chess Championship.
A total of 154 players from 33 countries including 51 grandmasters, 53
International Masters and 21 FIDE Masters participated in the open section and 100 players from 23 countries including two grandmasters, 19 women grandmasters, 13 International masters and 21 women International masters participated in the women's section.
