DHAKA, May 31, 2026 (BSS) - Thousands of people who spent the Eid-ul-Azha holidays in their village homes have begun returning to Dhaka as the week-long vacation draws to a close.
Since Sunday morning, a steady flow of passengers heading back to the capital has been observed at railway stations, bus terminals and launch ghats across the country.
Unlike previous years, the post-Eid return journey has largely remained smooth with no reports of major traffic congestion or overcrowding. Passengers have generally been able to travel back to their workplaces in relative comfort.
Visits to the capital's Gabtali, Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals showed normal passenger pressure on buses arriving from the northern and northeastern districts.

Passengers returning from Mymensingh, Sherpur, Jamalpur and Kishoreganj said their journeys were comfortable due to the absence of severe traffic congestion and the availability of adequate transport services.
A similar picture was seen on the country's waterways. Passengers arriving at Sadarghat Launch Terminal from southern districts reported comparatively hassle-free travel.
Rafiqul Islam, who returned to Dhaka from Barishal, said the situation on launch services was much better than in previous years.
"Usually after Eid, there is hardly any standing space on the launches, but this time the situation is quite calm," he said.
Another passenger, Suman, also from Barishal, said he returned early to avoid the expected rush. "I have to resume work tomorrow, so I came back this morning to avoid the crowds," he said.
The government declared a seven-day holiday from May 25 to May 31 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. With the extended break ending, millions of employees from both the public and private sectors are expected to return to their workplaces from Monday.
