DHAKA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 514 people and filed 61 cases during a 24-hour anti-crime drive across the capital.
Police said the arrests were made in operations across different police station areas of Dhaka, during which they seized two foreign-made pistols, a foreign-made revolver, two magazines and 11 rounds of ammunition.
The seizures also included a hand grenade, 85.35 kg of cannabis, 2,641 yaba tablets and 25 packets of heroin, according to a DMP statement.
Police also recovered three spent cartridges, five dummy pistols, four dummy pistol magazines, pistol covers, knives, steel batons, an electric shock device, 13 mobile phones and Tk 14,000 in cash.
Five motorcycles, a pickup truck and a private car were also seized, while two victims were rescued during the operation, the statement said.
The Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests at 140, followed by Motijheel with 61, Gulshan 59, Uttara 57, Tejgaon 56, Wari 55, Ramna 43, Lalbagh 36 and the Detective Branch 7.
Legal proceedings against the detainees are under way.
