DHAKA, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed actor Ashraful Haque Don on a five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of popular movie superstar Salman Shah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order after holding hearing on a plea filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to place Don on a seven-day remand in the case. CID filed the plea on August 23. The court, however, fixed today for hearing the matter in the presence of the accused.
Don was arrested by immigration police on August 9 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and was later handed over to the CID. He was subsequently sent to jail.
Salman Shah's maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, popularly known as Alamgir Kumkum, on October 21, 2025, filed the case against 11 people, including Salman's wife Samira Haque, with the capital's Ramna Police Station under sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.
The other accused are: Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Samira's mother Latifa Haque Lusi, Don, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad.
Earlier on October 20, 2025, Dhaka's sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque ordered the officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramna Police Station to treat the case filed over the death of Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar (Emon), popularly known as Salman Shah, as a murder case and submit a report in this regard.
The court, in its order, said that the unnatural death case was hereby cancelled and revoked by order passed on October 31, 2021.
