DHAKA, Aug 18, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 488 people in the capital over the past 24 hours as part of regular anti-crime operations, while 55 cases were filed.
Police said the arrests were made during operations across different areas of Dhaka, according to a DMP press release.
The Mirpur division accounted for the highest number of arrests, with 153 people detained, followed by Motijheel with 61, Tejgaon with 59, Gulshan with 49 and Wari with 47.
Police also arrested 41 people in Uttara, 33 in Lalbagh, 30 in Ramna, 10 by the Detective Branch and five by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit.
During the operations, police seized two foreign-made pistols, two magazines and 12 rounds of ammunition, along with 11 kg of cannabis and 16,222 yaba tablets, a methamphetamine-based illicit drug widely trafficked in Bangladesh.
Other items seized included a switchblade, two handcuffs, a toy pistol, an electronic tracker, two walkie-talkies, a weighing machine, 19 mobile phones, 28 SIM cards of different operators and Tk 1,400.
Police also rescued one victim during the operations.
Legal proceedings against those arrested are underway.
