RANGPUR, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud has ordered to strengthen intelligence activities, analyze the types and trends of crimes, and collect and verify information about the activities of criminals to curb crimes.
"Police should quickly collect and analyze information about the previous activities and crimes of the criminals involved in crimes related to violence against women and children, including rape," he said.
The RpMP Chief said this while presiding over the monthly crime review meeting of Rangpur Metropolitan Police for the month of July 2026 held at his conference room in the city on Monday.
RpMP Additional Commissioner of Police Naresh Chakma, Deputy Commissioners (DC) of Police Tofail Ahmed (Crime and Ops), Sanatan Chakraborty (DB) and Maruf Ahmed (Traffic) along with Assistant Police Commissioners of various zones, Officers-in-Charge and concerned officials were present in the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the overall situation of crimes committed in the areas under the jurisdiction of RpMP in July 2026, cases, arrests, drug recovery, recovery of other goods and activities taken to control crime.
At the same time, future action plans were analyzed and necessary directions were given to control the law and order situation at the field level more effectively.
In July 2026, 139 cases were registered in different police stations of RpMP and 168 accused were arrested in these cases. During this time, 60 drug cases were registered and 80 people were arrested.
In addition, 169 people were brought under the law in 111 non-FIR cases.
In the anti-drug operation, 11.525 kg of marijuana, 631 pieces of Yaba tablets, 41.9 grams of heroin, 30 pieces of Tapentadol tablets, 72 bottles of ESKaf (similar to Phensedyl) and two liters of distilled liquor were recovered.
In addition, one auto-rickshaw, one pickup, one truck, 209 packets of medicines, 30 kg gas cylinder and two kg copper wire were recovered in various operations.
In the meeting, the Police Commissioner directed that any false or misleading information be avoided, GDs, cases be filed properly in each incident, and legal process be followed.
He instructed the investigating officers to have a proper understanding of the judicial proceedings of the concerned courts and to ensure necessary coordination by maintaining institutional rules and etiquette.
"Rangpur Metropolitan Police will continue its activities with professionalism and responsibility to maintain law and order, eradicate drugs, control crime, and ensure public safety," he said.
