Bangladesh mission in Algiers observes July Uprising Day

DHAKA, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) – The Bangladesh Embassy in Algiers has observed the second anniversary of July Mass Uprising Day, paying tribute to the martyrs and recalling their aspirations for a discrimination-free, democratic and just society.

The programme, held on Sunday, began with a one-minute silence in memory of the July martyrs, according to a press release received here today.

Messages issued on the occasion by the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out by officials of the mission.

A documentary highlighting the July mass uprising was screened, followed by a special discussion at the embassy where invited guests participated.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Algeria Md Najmul Huda paid deep tribute to the martyrs and those injured during the uprising.

He said the spirit of the July uprising was to eradicate discrimination, injustice and oppression from society and establish people's democratic ownership through good governance.

The ambassador said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remains committed to upholding the spirit of the July uprising and implementing the aspirations of the July Charter.

Recalling the role played by expatriate Bangladeshis across the world during the mass uprising, Huda urged them to continue contributing to the country's development imbued with the spirit of the July-August movement.

He also called upon all Bangladeshis to play their respective roles in realising the goals of the government's "Bangladesh First" policy and fulfilling the dreams of the July martyrs.

Speakers at the discussion paid homage to the martyrs of the July-August uprising and wished continued peace, progress and prosperity for the people of Bangladesh.

A special prayer was offered for the eternal peace of the departed souls of the martyrs as well as for the country's continued peace, progress and prosperity.

Expatriate Bangladeshis, academics, journalists and members of a business delegation from Bangladesh, among others, attended the programme.

Traditional Bangladeshi cuisine was served to the guests at the end of the event.
