BGB seizes 200,000 yaba tablets in Naikhongchhari

DHAKA, Aug 17, 2026 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 200,000 Burmese yaba tablets in a special drive in the Ghumdhum border area of Naikhongchhari upazila in Bandarban.

A patrol team of Ghumdhum Border Outpost under Cox's Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) conducted a drive in the Kakra Bridge area around 9:10 pm on Sunday, following directives from the battalion commander.

Sensing the presence of the BGB patrol team, suspected drug smugglers fled the scene. Later, the patrol team searched the area and recovered the abandoned yaba tablets.

A general diary (GD) has been lodged with Ukhia Police Station and legal proceedings are underway, according to a BGB press release issued here today.

Cox's Bazar Battalion Commander Lt Col SM Khairul Alam said BGB remains committed to preventing drug trafficking and smuggling, recovering illegal arms and curbing all forms of border-related crimes besides guarding the frontier.

He said such anti-drug and border security operations would be further intensified and continued in the future.
