DHAKA, July 26, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has called on all landlords, tenants and mess residents in the capital to register their information under the Citizen Information Management System (CIMS), saying the digital database is playing a vital role in strengthening public safety and improving technology-driven policing.

According to the DMP, the CIMS platform has so far registered around 3,673,238 households, with information on more than 50 lakh residents stored in its database.

The software-based CIMS programme was launched at Ramna Police Station on September 1, 2016, before being expanded to all police stations across the capital in 2017. 

A mobile application was introduced in 2019 to simplify the registration process.

Police officials said the continuously updated database has significantly enhanced beat policing, enabling faster identity verification, criminal investigations, missing person tracing, suspect identification and emergency response.

Residents can collect CIMS registration forms from their respective police stations or outposts, complete them and submit them to the concerned police station. 

Citizens are also advised to keep a photocopy of the completed form for future reference. Those who change their address must register again at the police station in their new area.

The DMP said the system also benefits landlords by helping verify the identities of prospective tenants, reducing the risk of providing shelter to criminals or fraudsters and minimising unnecessary legal complications. 

Tenants, meanwhile, can establish direct contact with their designated beat officers and obtain police assistance more quickly when needed.

Highlighting CIMS as an effective tool in crime prevention and investigation, the DMP said the database has strengthened coordination between police and the public while making community policing more effective.

Reiterating its commitment to building a safe, smart and crime-free Dhaka, the DMP urged every landlord, tenant and mess resident in the capital to complete CIMS registration and contribute to ensuring the city's overall security.
