DHAKA, July 19, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rakibul Islam Rakib today said the nation will forever remember the sacrifice of July martyrs, noting that such mass uprising happens once in a century.
 
Therefore, the spirit, sacrifice and history of this mass uprising must be kept alive for the new generation, he added.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled 'In Remembrance of July: Chhatra Dal and Others' organized by the JCD Jagannath University branch at the university's central auditorium today.

Rakib said, "The biggest achievement in the life of this generation is participating in the anti-fascist movement of July-August. The mass uprising was successful through the ultimate sacrifices of those who laid down their lives, were injured and suffered torture."

Rakib noted that 142 JCD leaders, activists and supporters were martyred in the uprising. They took to the streets not for any personal interest, but with the determination to build a democracy, ensure independence and sovereignty and build a fascism-free Bangladesh. 

At the same time, the nation will forever remember the sacrifice of around 1,400 students and citizens with deep respect, he added.

Praising the role of the JnU JCD leaders and activists, he said that they played an important role in the movement despite facing difficult situations. Even in the face of police obstructions and attacks by the now banned Bangladesh Chhatra League, JnU students played a pioneering role in making the Shahbagh blockade program successful, which will remain memorable in history.

The JCD President further said, "Over the last two years, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal has not engaged in the politics of occupying halls, capturing rooms, or forcing general students to participate in political programs at any educational institution in the country."
