DHAKA, 1 July, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Atomic Reporters Bangladesh (ARB) today formed a new committee with Shamima Sultana (Labu), senior reporter of Channel 24 as its president and AKM Shariful Islam, editor of Vital Bangla, as general secretary for 2026-2028 tenure.
The election for the new executive committee was held last night (June 30) at a restaurant in the city's Karwan Bazar area after holding the annual general meeting of the organisation.
Mursalin Haque Junayed, general secretary of TMGB served as the chief election commissioner, announced the results. Abdullah Al Mamun, public relations officer of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Fazle Rabbi Saurav, staff reporter of DBC News, acted as election commissioners.
The ARB, an association of journalists covering nuclear power, science and technology affairs, also elected Abul Kalam Azad of BBC Bangla as vice-president, Jahed Selim of Maasranga Television as joint secretary, Shah Ali Joy of News24 TV as organising secretary, Mahmudul Hasan of Star News as treasurer, Ashraful Islam Rana of Vision 24 News as office secretary, and
Faruk Bhuiyan Robin of Somoy TV as communication, training and research secretary.
The executive members are Ariful Sazzad of 71 Television, Debashish Roy of Somoy TV, and Md Muzaherul Haque Rumen of 71 Television.
Speaking after the election, Shamima Sultana thanked members for their confidence in her leadership and said science and technology are indispensable to building a developed nation.
She said nuclear technology has made significant contributions to healthcare, agriculture and electricity generation.
