NOAKHALI, June 3, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraq Hossain today warned that if anyone disrespects the freedom fighters, another mass uprising will be necessary in the country.

“The ‘Razakars of 1971 who opposed the country’s War of Liberation, would face public resistance,”  he said while speaking as chief guest at a meeting of freedom fighters during his visit to ‘Bir Sreshtho Ruhul Amin Memorial Museum’ at Nandiapara under Sonaimuri Upazila here.

He said that the Razakars stood against the independence, joined in the oppression and assisted the Pakistani occupation forces targeting to kill the freedom fighters.

Speaking at the event, Ishraq said that a certain political party is attempting to capitalize on the legacy of the 2024 popular uprising for its own benefit.

The state minister also alleged that over the past 17 years Bangladesh had been turned into a ‘subordinate state’ of a neighboring country and that the nation’s resources had been looted.

He said the 2024 mass uprising emerged as a movement for liberation from that situation and noted that the children of freedom fighters played a significant role in the movement.

Among others, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Noakhali Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Barrister A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon, who is also the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association and lawmaker from Noakhali-1 constituency, along with local administration officials, freedom fighters and BNP leaders and activists, were present at that time.
