DHAKA, May 24, 2026 (BSS) - Authorities have taken special traffic management and infrastructure measures to ensure safe and congestion-free Eid-ul-Azha travel on the Elenga-Jamuna Bridge highway.
Under the Bangladesh Bridge Authority's "SASEC Road Connectivity Project-2", the highway stretch from Elenga to the eastern roundabout of the Jamuna Bridge has effectively been brought under a four-lane traffic system by integrating a newly constructed two-lane service road with the existing two-lane main highway.
Bridges Division Secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf said the initiative is expected to ease one of the major bottlenecks for Eid travelers heading to northern districts.
Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) Director (Planning and Development) and Joint Secretary Md Bhikaruddaula Chowdhury said roads near the Elenga Bazar flyover have been widened, while separate permanent bus bays have been constructed for north-bound and Dhaka-bound vehicles to reduce congestion caused by random passenger boarding and alighting.
He said concrete road dividers and reflective stickers on bamboo poles have also been installed to improve safety, especially during nighttime travel.
Field-level teams, law enforcement agencies and project engineers will remain active round the clock to ensure smooth traffic movement during the Eid rush, he added.
