DHAKA May 24, 2026 (BSS) - As part of the government's strengthened nationwide security measures ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, police recovered three robbed sacrificial cattle worth an estimated Tk 860,000 in a raid conducted by Bangshal Police Station in the capital.

According to a police press release, the cattle were being transported from Bishwanath in Sylhet to Chattogram after being purchased for Eid sacrifice. 

The pickup van carrying the animals left Sylhet at around 10:30 pm on May 20.

During the journey, the vehicle was intercepted by a group of 3-4 criminals in the Dhanashi area under Nabinagar Police Station in Brahmanbaria at around 3:00 am on May 21. 

The assailants allegedly hijacked the three cattle and fled the scene.

Following the incident, a complaint was filed with Nabinagar Police Station. 

Acting on confidential information, a team from Bangshal Police Station conducted a raid on Saturday (May 23) at a meat shop on Aga Sadeq Road in Dhaka, where the cattle were recovered.

Police later handed over the recovered cattle to their rightful owner. 

The owner became emotional after getting back the prized sacrificial animals and highly praised the professionalism and prompt response of the police.

Law enforcement agencies across the country have intensified security operations ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to ensure safe transportation of sacrificial animals, prevent robbery and extortion, and maintain overall law and order.
