DHAKA, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - The first cattle train will reach Kamalapur station with 400 sacrificial animals tonight as part of the Bangladesh Railway's arrangement, official said.
"The train with cattle will stop at Tejgaon station before 12 midnight. Then we will bring it to Kamalapur station when frequency of passengers will reduce," Engineer A B M Kamruzzaman, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Bangladesh Railway (BR) told BSS here today.
Bangladesh Railway, he said, will operate three special trains for transporting sacrificial animals on Dewanganj-Dhaka and Islampur-Dhaka routes. Operations of the special cattle trains will be completed within May 24.
Kamruzzaman said that traders of the cattle demanded to unload their animals at Kamalapur station.
According to BR, the first cattle train today left Islampur Bazar Railway Station, Jamalpur, about 4:40pm for Dhaka with about 400 sacrificial animals ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
Earlier, the train having 25 wagons left Dewanganj Bazar at 10:30 am and reached Islampur Bazar Railway Station at 11:00 am, it said.
Animals were loaded onto the train around 4 pm and then it started journey at 4:42 pm for Dhaka.
According to railway sources, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, the government first launched cattle trains for transporting animals for Qurbani in 2020, keeping in mind the needs of farmers and wholesalers.
The second cattle train with about 400 sacrificial animals in 25 wagons is scheduled to leave for Dhaka around 6 pm today.
The third cattle train with 400 animals in 25 wagons is scheduled to leave for Dhaka around 6 pm tomorrow.
Bangladesh Railway authorities fixed the fare for each wagon at Tk. 8,000 and some 16 animals can be transported in a wagon.
