Re-excavation work of Udakhali canal begins in Fulchhari

GAIBANDHA, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - Re-excavation work of the Udakhali canal in Fulchhari upazila began on Thursday with a call to implement the election pledge of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Local lawmaker Abdul Wares formally inaugurated the work at the Udakhali point of the upazila as the chief guest. Deputy Commissioner Masuder Rahman Mollah and Superintendent of Police Md. Jashim Uddin attended the programme as special guests.

Speaking on the occasion, the lawmaker said the canal had lost its navigability and biodiversity due to lack of excavation for a long time.

He expressed hope that the re-excavation work would help restore the canal's navigability and biodiversity and also contribute to increasing agricultural production in the area.

He instructed the concerned authorities to complete the work properly and within the stipulated time.

UNO Mostafizur Rahman, government officials, locals and invited guests were present at the programme.

Sources said the re-excavation work is being implemented under the initiative of the upazila administration and the upazila project implementation office.
