PHQ issues Eid-ul-Azha safety advisory for safe travel, cattle markets

DHAKA, May 20, 2026 (BSS) - Police Headquarters has issued a comprehensive public safety advisory ahead of the Holy Eid-ul-Azha, urging people to remain
cautious during travel, shopping and cattle trading to ensure a safe and hassle-free celebration.

In the advisory, Police Headquarters asked Eid holidaymakers to travel with proper planning to avoid severe last-minute congestion at bus terminals,
railway stations, launch terminals and ferry ghats.

The police strongly discouraged passengers from travelling on the roofs of buses, trains and launches or in trucks, pickups and other goods-laden
vehicles, warning that such risky travel could lead to fatal accidents.

Passengers were also requested not to pressure drivers to speed and to ensure that vehicles are driven according to traffic rules without dangerous
overtaking.

The advisory further urged people to avoid travelling in unfit vehicles and to remain cautious about fatigued, sick or unskilled drivers.

Police advised travellers to avoid using unsafe local vehicles such as Nasimon, Karimon and Votvoti [locally-made vehicles] on highways.

Train passengers were warned about incidents of stone throwing and asked to keep their belongings secure and avoid ticketless travel.

Regarding waterway travel, the advisory urged passengers not to travel during adverse weather conditions and instructed launch and ferry operators to keep
life jackets and buoy ropes for emergency rescue operations.

The Police Headquarters also warned people to remain alert about criminal gangs, including "Oggan party" and "Molom party", during journeys and asked
citizens not to accept food or drinks from strangers.

Suspicious activities should immediately be reported to the nearest police station or through the national emergency service 999.

On cattle market security, the advisory instructed traders and transporters not to overload vehicles carrying sacrificial animals and not to set up
cattle markets on highways or beside railway tracks.

It asked market authorities to collect tolls at government-fixed rates and urged traders to inform police if anyone demands illegal tolls or extortion.
Transport operators carrying sacrificial animals were also instructed to display banners mentioning the destination and market name.

Police further warned against smuggling of rawhides in border areas and requested locals to inform law enforcement if any suspicious transport
movement is noticed.

The advisory also emphasised safe financial transactions at cattle markets, encouraging people to use banking channels and mobile financial services
cautiously.

Citizens were advised never to share personal PIN numbers and to stay alert about counterfeit currency notes.

For shopping mall and market security, Police Headquarters advised authorities to use CCTV cameras, archways, metal detectors and other
technologies to strengthen security measures during the Eid shopping rush.
