DHAKA, May 19, 2026 (BSS) - The second meeting of the Special Committee of
the 13th Jatiya Sangsad, formed to prepare recommendations on addressing the
emerging energy situation in the country and submit a report to parliament,
was held today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The meeting was chaired by committee chairman and Minister for Power, Energy
and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmood.

Aninda Islam Amit, Whip A.B.M. Ashraf Uddin (Nijan), Whip Mia Nuruddin
Ahammed Apu, Moinul Islam Khan, Md Saiful Alam, Md Nurul Islam, Md Abdul
Baten, Md Abul Hasnat and Mohammad Abul Hasan attended the meeting, said a
press release.
During the meeting, the ministry presented the ongoing projects undertaken to
ensure uninterrupted energy supply in the country as well as the existing
scenario, policies and guidelines adopted for the expansion of renewable
energy.
The ministry informed the committee that work is underway to make time
befitting the policy guidelines relating to the establishment, operation and
management of filling stations.
The meeting was also informed that the Gas Marketing Rules-2026 had been
formulated by updating the Gas Marketing Rules-2014.
Officials further said the Chattogram-Dhaka oil pipeline project has already
been completed and full-scale oil supply through the pipeline would begin by
the end of June.
The committee reviewed various aspects of the prevailing energy situation in
the country while members placed their opinions and observations during the
discussion.
The meeting urged opposition party members to submit their recommendations in
writing to the committee regarding measures to address the evolving energy
situation.
The committee decided to submit a report to parliament containing necessary
recommendations to tackle the energy-related situation.
Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Secretary of the
Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat and other concerned officials were
present at the meeting.
