JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, May 18, 2026 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said that the ongoing investigation into attacks on protesting students during the July movement, in which some teachers were also allegedly involved, has been delayed due to continued unrest on the campus.
The Vice-Chancellor made the remarks this evening while speaking to journalists at the conference room of his office.
He said the incidents of attacks on demonstrating students occurred on July 14, 15 and 17 in 2024 at the Vice-Chancellor's residence during the July Uprising.
He also noted that several teachers were among those accused in connection with the incidents.
The VC said the structured committee formed to investigate the incidents had nearly completed its work, with only two to three meetings remaining before finalizing the report for submission to the university syndicate.
He said the committee had planned to complete its remaining tasks within the scheduled timeframe and place the report at the upcoming syndicate meeting on May 21.
However, due to ongoing unrest and instability on the campus, committee members were unable to enter the administrative building, which disrupted the process.
Expressing regret over the delay, the Vice-Chancellor apologised to teachers, students and other stakeholders, saying the university administration remained committed to completing the investigation as soon as possible.
Prof Kamrul added that a syndicate meeting would be convened soon, partly for budgetary matters, where the completed report and related issues would be placed for discussion.
He urged all concerned to cooperate in maintaining a stable academic environment, expressing hope that the investigation would be concluded fairly and in a timely manner through the syndicate meeting.
