CTTC arrests four for Stealing BTCL wires in city

DHAKA, May 18, 2026 (BSS) - A team of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has arrested four individuals, including the alleged ring leader, for stealing Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) cables in the capital.

The arrests were made from Mohammadpur and Hazaribagh areas on Sunday evening by CTTC's Special Action Group in connection with a case filed with Kalabagan Police Station.

The arrested persons are Ibrahim, 30, Humayun Kabir ,49, Md Julhas ,30, and Md Babul ,35.

Police said the operation was conducted based on intelligence information and analysis of CCTV footage from the affected areas.

According to police, the accused posed as BTCL employees and stole underground and overhead cables from different parts of the city during nighttime. They later sold the copper extracted from the cables to local scrap traders, officials added.

Legal action has been taken against the arrested persons, police said.
