DHAKA, May 18, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today ordered the seizure of the tax files of Nadira Mahmud, widow of former industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, who died in jail custody in September 2025, and Arifa Jesmin Konika, wife of former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the orders, allowing two separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC has filed a case against Nadira Mahmud on April 8, 2025, alleging that she acquired Taka 1.34 crore in assets beyond known sources of income.
The case statement said she is accused of acquiring the assets through illegal means for personal financial gain. It added that for the purpose of investigation, all income tax records of the accused from the beginning up to the 2024-25 tax year, including permanent and miscellaneous parts of the files, are required to be seized.
In a separate case filed on December 12, 2024, Arifa Jesmin Konika and her husband, former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, are accused of jointly abusing power to acquire Taka 9.58 crore in illegal assets.
They are also accused of conducting suspicious transactions involving deposits of Taka 22.34 crore and withdrawals of Taka 17.56 crore through 31 bank accounts, allegedly constituting money laundering.
The ACC said seizure of Arifa Jesmin Konika's income tax records from the 2008-09 to 2024-25 tax years is necessary for the proper investigation of the case.
