ZRF delegation visits injured doctor at DMCH, assures support

DHAKA, May 17, 2026 (BSS) - A delegation of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation (ZRF) today visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and met an injured physician undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following an attack at Shariatpur Sadar Hospital.

The delegation went there on the instructions of Prime Minister as well as ZRF President Tarique Rahman and the Foundation's Vice President Dr Zubaida Rahman, according to a ZRF press release. 

The physician, Dr Md Nasir Islam, was critically injured on May 15 after being assaulted by miscreants in the emergency department of the hospital in Shariatpur following the death of a heart patient. 

During the visit, ZRF Executive Director Prof Dr Farhad Halim Donar inquired about the doctor's condition and assured support for his treatment and recovery.

He also condemned the incident and called for exemplary punishment of those responsible.

The delegation assured the family of continued assistance to ensure proper treatment and legal support.

Representatives from various professions, including physicians, engineers, journalists and others, were present.

They included Engineer Md Mahbub Alam, Prof Dr Abul Kenan, Dr Parvez Reza Kakon, Prof Dr Abdus Salam, journalist Amirul Islam, agriculturist Shafiul Alam Didar, journalist Saeed Khan, Engineer Umasha Umayon Moni Chowdhury, Dr Khalequzzaman Dipu, Dr Syed Imtiaz Uddin Sajid, Dr Ashfaq Nabi Konok, Dr Amirul Islam Pavel, Dr Jubayer Abedin Jisan, Dr Suman, Dr Meshkat, Dr Shuvo and Dr Russell.

They also met the patient's family and expressed solidarity over the incident.
