DHAKA, May 6, 2026 (BSS)- Special Metropolitan Magistrates of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), through summary courts, disposed of a total of 5,205 criminal and 302 traffic cases in April 2026.

DMP Law Officer, also a District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ataul Haque said the cases were from Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh, and Uttara divisions. 

A total of 10,155 accused were arrested in those cases, of whom 5,894 received jail sentences and fined over Taka 38.82 lakh in addition to seizing assets worth Taka 245,460.

Additionally, 57 special drives were conducted during the month to maintain law and order.

In traffic-related enforcement under the Road Transport Act, 2018, authorities filed 1,470 cases. Of these, 302 were disposed of, involving 1,216 accused, realizing fines of Taka 449,700 and sending two individuals to jail.

Officials said the swift disposal of cases by magistrates is expediting judicial process, strengthening public confidence in law and containing criminal activities in the city.
