KHULNA, May 3, 2026 (BSS) – Whip of the National Parliament Rakibul Islam Bakul, stressing the need to curb the commercialisation of education, urged teachers to reduce dependence on private tutoring.

He said many meritorious students are dropping out due to the coaching centre-based education system, as not all guardians have equal financial capacity.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the 48th annual sports competition and prize-distribution ceremony of Khalishpur Rotary School, held on Saturday evening.

Bakul, also a Member of Parliament from the Khulna-3 constituency and Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad, said that Khulna Rotary School would be developed into one of the best educational institutions in the city.

“I am a former student of this school, so there is no need for any separate demand for its development,” he said, adding that he would continue his all-out support to improve the institution’s academic standard and ensure students’ success.
Acting Head Teacher Irene Parvin presided over the function.

Among others, Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque (PPM), Additional Police Commissioner of KMP Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Md Kamruzzaman, President of Khulna Metropolitan BNP Advocate S M Shafiqul Alam Mona, its Organising Secretary Sheikh Sadi, District Education Officer Md Chayedur Rahman, Project Director of National Housing Authority (Khulna Division) Md Ziaur Rahman, and Khan Jahan Ali Thana Secondary Education Officer Mosammat Rumanai Yasmin were present as special guests.

Highlighting development plans, Bakul said steps would soon be taken to nationalise the institution.

“To ensure quality education in classrooms, teachers’ salaries and facilities should be enhanced,” he added, announcing scholarships for poor and meritorious students.

Addressing the students, Bakul said they must excel not only in studies but also in sports and cultural activities.
He called upon teachers and students to work together to make the institution the best at the district level.
The chief guest later distributed prizes among the winners of the annual sports competition.
