DHAKA, May 02, 2026(BSS) - A refreshing and purposeful morning unfolded at Hatirjheel in the capital here today as a large crowd gathered at dawn for a noble cause.
The second round of ‘Doctors Run’ was held with a theme “Run for a Healthy Heart,” aiming to create awareness about the cardiovascular health among the common people.
At this time when heart disease-related deaths are rising at an alarming rate in Bangladesh, this unique initiative was taken by mainly medical professionals to encourage a healthier lifestyle among the people.
This year’s marathon saw an impressive turnout, with around 1,200 participants joined the event.
The Hatirjheel area became vibrant with enthusiastic runners including nearly 650 doctors. These physicians, who regularly advise patients on maintaining good health, took to the streets themselves to demonstrate the importance of physical exercise.
Participants ran a distance of 7.5 kilometers for a healthier way of life. Many of them said that medication alone is not enough, regular exercise and lifestyle changes are essential to prevent life-threatening conditions such as heart disease.
Through this event, the organizers aimed to deliver a strong message across all levels of society.
According to recent statistics, approximately 562 people die every day in the country from heart related diseases and heart attacks. Alarmingly, the trend is increasing rapidly among the younger populations.
Medical experts at the event highlighted that regular running helps keep the heart active and plays a significant role in controlling blood pressure and diabetes, thereby reducing the risk of heart attacks.
Dr. Ujjal Kumar Mallick, Race Director of the “Doctors Run” said that it is not just a marathon but a meaningful step toward building a healthier, heart-friendly future. Although the morning run concluded, its powerful message of wellness is expected to resonate for a long time, he added.
