Voting in Dhaka Bar Association polls ends

DHAKA, April 30, 2026 (BSS) - The voting in the Dhaka Bar Association election for the 2026-2027 term ended today, with 4,310 voters casting their ballots on the second day of the two-day polls.

"The polling remained peaceful throughout, and 4,310 voters cast their ballots today. The ballots will be counted from Friday morning, and the result will be announced thereafter," Dhaka Bar Election Chief Election Commissioner Alhajj Md Borhan Uddin told BSS.

Earlier on April 29, a total of 2,759 voters cast their ballots. In total, 7,069 out of 21,731 eligible members exercised their voting rights in the election.

Polling on both days began at 9:00 am at the Dhaka Bar Association Bhaban and continued until 5:00 pm, with a one-hour break from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

Pro-BNP lawyers from the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Panel are contesting under the Blue Panel, while pro-Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidates are under the Green Panel for a total of 23 posts.

 In this election, Md Anwar Zahid Bhuiyan is contesting for the post of President and Mohammad Abul Kalam Khan for General Secretary from the BNP-backed Blue Panel.

Other candidates from the panel include Senior Vice-President Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury; Vice-President Md Abul Kalam Azad; Treasurer Mohammad Anisuzzaman Anis; Senior Joint Secretary Md Eltutmesh Soudagor Anni; Joint Secretary Md Mahadi Hasan Jewel; Library Secretary Khandakar Maksudul Hasan Sabuj; Cultural Affairs Secretary Marzia Hera; Office Secretary Md Afzal Hossain Mridha; Sports Affairs Secretary Md Sohel Khan; Social Welfare Secretary ASM Firoz; and Information and Communication Secretary Shafiqul Islam Shafik.

 For member posts, the Blue Panel candidates are: AHM Rezwanul Saeed Romeo, Farzana Yasmin, Md Adnan Rahman, Md Nizam Uddin, Md Nazrul Islam Mamun, Md Sanaul, Mamun Miah, Mujahidul Islam Sayem, Sheikh Shawkat Hossain, and Syed Sarowar Alam Nishan.

On the other hand, from the Jamaat-backed Green Panel, SM Kamal Uddin is contesting for the post of President and Md Abu Bakar for General Secretary.

Other candidates from the panel include Senior Vice-President Md Shahidul Islam; Vice-President Md Lutfor Rahman Azad; Treasurer Md Azmat Hossain; Senior Joint Secretary Md Shahin Akhtar; Joint Secretary Md Mehedi Hasan Bhuiyan; Library Secretary Md Shahadat Hossain; Cultural Secretary Bilkis Akter; Office Secretary Md Abdur Razzak; Sports Secretary Babul Akter Babu; Social Welfare Secretary Mohammad Shahjahan Molla; and Information and Communication Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Masud.

For member posts, the Green Panel candidates are: Belal Hossain, Dilruba Akter Subarna, Zahirul Islam, Kawsar Ahmed, Md Kaiyum Hossain Nayan, Md Mohsin Reza, Md Omar Faruk, Md Shah Alam, Md Yunus, and Mosharraf Hossain.
