DHAKA, April 29, 2026 (BSS) - A 12-member delegation from the Brahmin priest community paid a courtesy call on Deputy Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Barrister Kayser Kamal, at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today.
During the meeting, the Deputy Speaker exchanged greetings with the members of the delegation of his constituency and inquired about their overall well-beings.
He said that people of different religions and communities in his constituency have long been living in peaceful coexistence.
To help citizens from all walks of life gain firsthand knowledge about the Jatiya Sangsad, he said initiatives have been taken to invite them in phases to visit the Parliament Building and observe parliamentary sessions, said a press release.
Kayser Kamal further said that the Brahmin priest delegation visited today, while earlier delegations from the Christian community, Imam representatives, the Hajong community, as well as teachers and students from Durgapur Women’s Degree College, had also visited.
The Deputy Speaker said his goal is to ensure that people from all professions and communities in the area can learn about parliamentary proceedings.
Members of the Brahmin priest community—including Bireshwar Chakraborty, Mintu Bhaduri, Apares Chakraborty, Gautam Chakraborty, Bimal Chowdhury, Utpal Sharma, Ratan Sharma, Sujoy Sharma, Manik Chakraborty, Keshab Lal Chakraborty, Sajal Chakraborty and Samaresh Chakraborty—expressed their gratitude to the Deputy Speaker for arranging their visit to the Parliament Building and for his appointment as Deputy Speaker as a son of his constituency.
They said that with the Deputy Speaker’s support, they aspire to set an example by contributing to the development of Durgapur.
They presented him with a ceremonial gift and invited him to attend religious function, while requesting renovation of temples, introduction of an allowance for priests, and continued engagement in religious activities.
In response, the Deputy Speaker assured that there would be no negligence in allocating funds for temples in the area.
He said necessary steps would be taken for the welfare of the Brahmin priest community. Information regarding allocations for mosques, temples, and churches will be made publicly available on social media platforms.
He added, “Above all, we are human—our blood is the same. Whether Muslim, Hindu, Christian or Buddhist, we are all Bangladeshis.” He emphasized that while public services were previously viewed through a partisan lens, he is committed to serving all people irrespective of political affiliation.
The Deputy Speaker also stressed the importance of keeping the youth folk free from drugs by promoting education, sports, and cultural activities.
