DHAKA, Apr 28, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has dismissed allegations made in a recently published advertisement by a business association, calling the claims of "illegal drives" on licensed bars and restaurants misleading and inconsistent with the law.

The DMP stated that under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, the Department of Narcotics Control is responsible for licensing and regulatory oversight, but this does not restrict police or other law enforcement agencies from conducting drives. 

Citing the Code of Criminal Procedure, Police Regulations, Bengal and the DMP Ordinance, police said they are legally empowered to carry out searches and operations without warrants if there is suspicion of cognizable offences.

The police also referred to recent drives in Mirpur and Uttara, where detained individuals were penalized through summary trials for offences including illegal drug use and other criminal offences.

The DMP emphasized that while coordination with relevant authorities is important, immediate action in the interest of public safety is lawful. 

It also noted that allegations of misconduct such as harassment or extortion are taken seriously and investigated under a zero-tolerance policy.

Reaffirming its commitment to law enforcement and public security, the DMP urged concerned groups to refrain from publishing one-sided and misleading information that could create confusion among the public.
