RAJSHAHI, April 24, 2026 (BSS) - An awareness session titled 'Climate Change and Human Health' has been held in the city to highlight the health risks associated with climate change.

The session was organized by the National Youth Council Bangladesh with support from the Department of Environment on Thursday at SOS Children's Village Rajshahi.

Tasmina Khatun, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, attended the event as the chief guest.

Speakers at the session said climate change is disproportionately affecting children and youth, making it crucial to raise awareness among the younger generation about environmental issues.

They emphasized that there is a strong link between the environment and human health, noting that climate change is no longer just an environmental concern but a major public health issue.

Tasmina Khatun said personal awareness, eco-friendly behaviour, and active participation of youth are essential to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change.

She also stressed the need for building a social movement alongside government initiatives to effectively address the challenges.

Dr Ashraf Hossain, Project Director of SOS Children's Village Rajshahi, delivered the welcome speech.

Hasan Asif Khan Chowdhury, Director of Youth Development and External Affairs at SOS Children's Villages International in Bangladesh, gave the opening remarks.

Shehan Tawsif, Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Rajshahi University, presented the keynote speech.

The closing remarks were delivered by Mizanur Rahman, In-charge and Programme Officer of SOS Youth Village Rajshahi.
